NH Lakeside Winter Elopement: Kim & Dan

On a frigid cold, but gorgeous winter day the sun glittered against the snow. Kim was getting ready in her presidential suite at the Omni Mt. Washington Resort. She was grinning ear to ear in anticipation of her first look with both her father and Dan. Kim’s dad shed a few tears of pride when he saw his beautiful daughter in her wedding dress. Dan’s eyes lit up the room seeing his bride.

The whole family joined in for a very ceremonial in-suite cake cutting. Kim’s parents were both In the Navy so they were very excited about the couple cutting their cake with their very own sword.

Adventure was calling to this couple for their ceremony! We all set off on a 3 mile hike to a scenic mountain lake overlooking the Presidential and Pliny Ranges. Kim and Dan’s dog even joined us for the hike! Dan’s father officiated a very intentional ceremony between the couple along with readings from members of their family.

Thanks to following some of our best winter hiking tips Kim, Dan, and family stayed warm and toasty throughout the hike, ceremony, and photos. Here are just a few of our tips!

Winter Tip 1: Dress in layers. You can always take layers off, but if you don’t have them, you can’t wear them. Wearing nude leggings or figure skating tights under your dress will help immensely with how long you can bare the cold.

Winter Tip 2: Never stay in one place too long. Movement is the key to staying warm during the brisk winters the White Mountain National Forest is well known for. It depends on the temperatures and windchill, but on average you should be prepared to hike or move around every 10-20 minutes.

Winter Tip 3: Use flowers which aren’t sensitive to the cold. Roses, orchids, eucalyptus… hold up well. Especially use deeper, richer colors which don’t wilt or brown due to cold weather. Pale blushes and whites will brown quickly. Your florist will be able to provide you with much more information on this!

After the ceremony and toasting the couple’s marriage with champagne we hiked around to enjoy the beautiful alpenglow off the mountains for sunset, this is one of the big reasons why many couple’s are now opting to get married in the winter and brave the cold! Sunset was perfect, and this fun couple with a love of adventure left laughing.
