How to Plan a Rock Climbing Elopement

You and your partner have a special connection with rock climbing and outdoor adventure. You want to do what you love most on your special day, and just a pretty place in nature won’t cut it. You want to rock climb together! It sounds a bit intimidating, especially in wedding attire, but it is completely doable. Here is our guide to planning your rock climbing elopement.

Hire a guide

Whether you are more novice or highly experienced hiring a guide is 100% the best decision you can make for your rock climbing elopement. There are so many reasons why. A guide will know a specific area best and can point you in the direction of the best route. A guide can be out there before you to set lines so you don’t have to. A guide can set separate lines for your photographer to use in order to get the best shots and angles. Most importantly, a guide can keep the day safe, stress free, and fun!

Attire tips

-Go for a dress which isn’t too fitted and allows for lots of movement.

-Take a test run without your partner at the gym wearing your attire if possible.

-Climbing in a suit jacket can be very uncomfortable and hot. We recommend having a shirt underneath you love, or bringing an extra outfit.

-Climbing can get your attire dirty or possibly tear it. Save the climbing till the end of the day to minimize stress.

Timing

Plan for a time of year when it doesn’t generally rain and temperatures are very temperate. In New England June and September are great for climbing due to low rainfall and temperatures generally not exceeding 80 degrees during the day.

Flexibility

In the world of outdoor adventure flexibility to the weather is key. If your day is a washout climbing won’t be possible. Find a backup plan you love just as much as climbing so you can enjoy your elopement to the very fullest.

Be Prepared

Having your climbing gear ready to go is something you should pack a week or so before your elopement day. This way you aren’t stressed about forgetting something the night before or day of.
